AGM 2011

The 165th AGM was held on Thursday 14 April 2011 at the Reception Suite of Glengoyne Distillery. Drinks were served from 7.30 p.m. after which the meeting and prizegiving took place, followed by tea, coffee and shortbread.

George Harris has replaced Mike Jackson as president, Fiona Glass has replaced Stan Moore as secretary and John Phillips was seconded after the meeting to replace Fiona Glass as Province Match Secretary.

The results of the main competitions can be found at Archive. Both the main Club and the Ladies Section had awards for the Curler of the Year which went to George Harris and Betty Meikle respectively.

Fiona Glass

Fiona has been playing in Annette MacDonald's team and has had a very successful season. In the Scottish Seniors, they got through the round robin to the quarterfinals, but were narrowly defeated, in their third match of the day, by the losing finalists. However, they then went on to win both the British Ladies Open at The Peak and the National Masters Championship at Greenacres.

Fiona Hawker

Fiona Hawker (formerly Barrowman), who was a junior member of the Club and now lives in England, is the skip of the current English Ladies champions and is due to play in division B at the European Championships in Moscow next December.

Ballikinrain Cup

The 2011 Ballikinrain Cup was played on 4 February 2011. Strathendrick came second with 2 points and 7 ends. Fintry won with 3 points and 9 ends and Balfron came third with 1 point and 8 ends.

Province points

A number of members of the Club took part in the Province points competition at Braehead on 16 January 2010. Six disciplines were played. The Club did much better than last year with Donnie MacDonald winning on 33 points and Mike Jackson and Steve Holden in joint fourth place each on 25 points. The Club came first on the best two scores with 58 points.

Ladies Friendly matches

The Ladies played three friendly matches during the year:
The West Stirlingshire Ladies match took place on 29 October at The Peak and was won narrowly by WSL.
The Old Fellows match took place on 12 January at The Peak and was won by the Strathendrick Ladies, by winning one match and pealing the other. Sorry to those Old Fellows who are also members of Strathendrick.
The Club 90 match took place on 10 March at Greenacres and was won by Strathendrick Ladies, again by winning one match and pealing the other.

District Medal

This was against Falkirk CC for the second year running. Unfortunately, this year they took the match more seriously and beat us. So no medal from the RCCC this year.

Indoor Grand Match

This took place on 23 October 2010. We had two teams in this Bonspiel. Jim and Betty Meikle and Diana and Mike Jackson went to Kelso where they were beaten by Belshill CC by 8 shots to 3. Fiona Glass, Stan Moore, Gill Smith and John O'Neill played Corstorphine at Aberdeen and also lost by 6 shots to 11 (due to one bad end). A most enjoyable time was had by all participants.

Texas Scramble

The Texas Scramble took place on 3 September 2010 at Buchanan Castle Golf Club. The golf was well supported and the weather was very good. The golf was followed by an excellent meal in the dining room and a general knowledge quiz.

The winning golf team was Norman Robertson, Mike Jackson, Steve Holden and Sheila Gingles who tied with the the team of Sheilagh Cooper, Ian Bowie, Margaret Falconer and Matt Gingles but Norman's team won by virtue of the better inward half. (But doesn't this mean they had the worst outward half?)

The quiz was won by Rita Harris, Dorothy and Dennis Pattenden, Fiona and Douglas Graham with 17 points out of 20.

Summer Barbecue

Helen and Allan Watson were kind enough to host a barbecue in Fintry on 26 June. Despite a few showers during the day, the weather remained dry when it mattered and a most enjoyable afternoon was had by all.

AGM 2010

The 164th AGM was held on Thursday 15 April 2010 at the Reception Suite of Glengoyne Distillery. Drinks were served from 7.30 p.m. after which the meeting and prizegiving took place, followed by tea, coffee and shortbread.

Fiona Glass has replaced Marshall Falconer as Province Match Secretary.

The results of the main competitions can be found at Archive. Both the main Club and the Ladies Section had awards for the Curler of the Year which went to Norman Robertson and Rita Barth respectively.

Marshall Falconer reported on the Club's results in the Province competitions. The Club had a very successful year achieving the double of the Robert Paterson Shield and the Forest Hills League and also winning the Province Medal. The detailed results of these competitions can be found on the Province Website at Province Archive.

A note for your diary is that the next Balyarrow Trophy has been scheduled for 30 October 2011 at Murrayfield.

The subscription for the year has remained at £23. The subscription for non-mother club members remains at £6.
