AGM 2015

The 169th AGM was held on Friday 10 April 2015 at Buchanan Castle Golf Club. The meeting and prizegiving took place took place at 6.30 and was followed by a buffet supper.

Donnie MacDonald became President in place of Sheila Sturrock. Sandy Park took over as Secretary and Vice-President from Donnie MacDonald. Rita Harris came onto the committee.

The results of the main competitions can be found at Archive. Both the main Club and the Ladies Section had awards for the Curler of the Year which went to Fiona Glass and Muriel Holroyd respectively.

Friendly against the Bearsden Curling Club

This match took place on 27 March. We hosted Bearsden at The Peak. We lost one game and drew the other but had an enjoyable supper at the Wayfarers in Croftamie afterwards. For the record the teams were Donnie MacDonald, Fiona Glass, Sheila Sturrock, Allan Watson and Bob Glass, Mary Macdonald, Helen Watson, Gill Smith.

Ladies Section friendly against the Club 90 Curling Club

This match took place on 26th February. We hosted Club 90 at The Peak again this year. We lost in both games but enjoyed the lunch afterwards. For the record the teams were Rita Barth, Muriel Holroyd, Luisella Mosley, Rita Hallam and Pat Rodger, Gill Smith, Isabel Robertson, Elspeth Murdoch.

Ladies Section friendly against the Old Fellows Curling Club

This match took place on 12th February. Again, we struggled to make up teams but without borrowing from West Stirlingshire this year. We lost in both games but enjoyed the lunch afterwards. For the record the teams were Rita Barth, Elspeth Murdoch, Luisella Mosley, Rita Hallam and Gill Smith, Marie Elder, Norma Thornton, Heather Burns.

Gordon Mitchell Rosebowl

Although Strathendrick only finished in 6th place in the bonspiel, it should be noted that four out of the eight ladies of the West Stirlingshire Ladies team, which came second to Loch Ard, are also members of Strathendrick. Namely: Rosemary Miller, Isabel Robertson, Muriel Holroyd and Gill Smith.

Ballikinrain Cup 2015

This was won decisively by Fintry who were victorious in both their matches. Strathendrick beat Balfron to take second place.

Points competition

The Province Points competition had to be abandoned for 2014/15 due to the re-arrangment of fixtures from when The Peak was closed. The Points Cup was awarded to the leading player in the Beattie Open Points played on 30 January 2015. Donnie MacDonald won on 33 points and Di Jackson was second on 21.

Stirling Area Ladies Christmas Bonspiel 2014

Club member Elspeth Murdoch was in the winning team in this fun competition. The team was skipped by Linsey Alison of Buccaneers and Doune Curling Clubs.

District Medal

A team of John Phillips, Sheila Sturrock, Mary MacDonald and Norman Robertson played Millport at Greenacres Curling Rink on 17th November 2014. The match was pealed at 6 shots each but Strathendrick won by virtue of winning 5 ends against 3.

Balyarrow Trophy

The tri-annual bonspiel between Strathendrick, St Andrews, Falkland, Bridge of Weir and Haddington took place on 19 October 2014 at Greenacres Curling Rink. The Winners were Haddington for the third time. Strathendrick finshed in last place. John Phillips' rink was the highest up. The teams were as follows:

Pride of Stirling Award 2014

Congratulations are also due to Fiona Glass who won a Voluntary Sector Award for her work with the Stirling Wheelchair Club.

Scottish Ladies Canadian Tour November 2015

Congratulations are due to club member, Jane McLaren, for her selection for this tour.

Forest Hills Trophy

Due to a shortage of teams for the Province away-day in Kinross, Strathendrick entered two teams in this event this year.
Team 1 - Jane McLaren, Kim McLaren, Fiona Glass and Norman Robertson won the event and
Team 2 - Bob Glass, Donnie MacDonald, Mary MacDonald and Ronnie Myles came second.
There will be more details on the Province website in due course.

Texas Scramble

The Texas Scramble took place on 5 September 2014 at Buchanan Castle Golf Club. The weather was good with lovely evening sunshine and 6 teams of 4 took part. The golf was followed by an excellent meal in the club house and a general knowledge quiz with 6 teams of 6 or 7 people.

The winning golf team was Norman Robertson, Jim Smith, Allan Watson and Mike Jackson who accumulated a total of 38 points. Runners-up was the team of Maurice Rennie, John Anderson, Luisella Mosely and Isabel Robertson with 38.7 points.

The quiz was won by John & Jean Anderson, Betty Meikle, John & Anne O'Neill and Gillian Kingslake, who scored 17 points out of 20. The team of Donnie MacDonald, Meg and David Hale, Rita Harris, Matt & Sheila Gingles and Sheila Sturrock were second with 16 points. The team of Stephen Holden, Phillip Pain, Jim Meikle, Di and Mike Jackson and Allan Watson also scored 16 points but in a slightly longer time.

Commonwealth Games Queen's Baton Relay

The Club was very privileged that one of its members, Jean Anderson, was chosen to carry the baton on Station Road when it passed through Killearn on 6 July 2014.

AGM 2014

The 168th AGM was held on Saturday 26 April 2014 at Buchanan Castle Golf Club. The meeting and prizegiving took place took place at 6.30 and was followed by a buffet supper.

Donnie MacDonald became Vice-President and also took over as secretary from Fiona Glass for a one year term. Stephen Holden became League Convenor and Sandy Park also came onto the committee. Jean Anderson became President of the Ladies Section in place of Elean Bonner.

The results of the main competitions can be found at Archive. Both the main Club and the Ladies Section had awards for the Curler of the Year which went to Gill Smith and Alison Robinson respectively.
