AGM 2016

The 170th AGM was held on Friday 15 April 2016 at Buchanan Castle Golf Club. The meeting and prizegiving took place took place at 6.30 and was followed by a buffet supper.

There were no changes to the committee but Gill Smith became President of the Ladies Section in place of Jean Anderson.

Stephen Holden was awarded honorary membership for his past service to the Club.

The results of the main competitions can be found at Archive. Both the main Club and the Ladies Section had awards for the Curler of the Year which went to Tony Flisch and Rita Harris respectively.

Ladies'Section friendly against Club 90

Two teams of ladies played against the Club 90 at Greenacres in the annual friendly match on 4 March. Both teams lost but the match and the trip to Greenacres were enjoyed by both sides. The teams were Rita Barth, Anne Lang, Elspeth Murdoch and Maureen Campbell and Muriel Holroyd, Isabel Robertson, Maureen Royston and Roz Gibson.

Beattie Points

In the Beattie Points run by Stirling Curling Group, Jane McLaren (Strathendrick) and Fiona Glass (Strathendrick) came first and third in the Ladies Section.

Crystal Vase - Ladies Grand Masters

In the inaugural competition for the Crystal Vase, for ladies over a certain age, the team of Fiona Glass, Sheila Sturrock, Gillian Kingslake (all Strathendrick) and Alice Fraser from Club 90 came second out of 14 teams.

Province Points

Five members of the club took part in the annual Province Points competition which took place on 29 January. The leading Strathendrick player was Fiona Glass on 29 points, who received the club's Points Trophy.

Ballikinrain Cup

Two teams played in the annual three sided match against Balfron and Fintry. Jane McLaren's team of Sheila Sturrock, Stan Moore and Sandy Park won 6 ends to 2 against Fintry and Bob Glass's team of Mary MacDonald, Keith Hyam and Walter Macgowan won 4 of the 8 ends against Balfron.

Ladies'Section friendly against the Old Fellows

Two teams of ladies played against the Old Fellows in the annual friendly match on 25 January. Both teams lost but one match was only decided on the last stone of the eighth end. The teams were Fiona Glass, Marie Elder, Isabel Robertson and Lorna Craigie and Gill Smith, Rita Barth, Elspeth Murdoch and Anne Lang.

Stirling Area Ladies Christmas Bonspiel

Once again the senior member of the club - Elspeth Murdoch of course - has been winning things. She was given one of the best shots awards for a draw behind another stone and was in the second place team with 6 ends. The winners also had six ends but were better on shots up.

Ladies Tour to Canada

Jane McLaren of Strathendrick went on the RCCC tour on 6 November for three weeks. The progress of the tour has been covered on a blog on the RCCC website.

District Medal

A Strathendrick team of Bob Glass, Donnie MacDonald, Gill Smith and Sandy Park played DAF Murrayfield in the RCCC District Medal match on 30 October 2015. After a good start our opposition won three good scoring ends giving them victory by 10 shots to 7 although we had 5 ends to their 3.

Indoor Grand Match

The fourth Indoor Grand Match took take place on 24th October 2015. Strathendrick had two teams, one playing at The Peak and one at Elgin.

The Stirling team was: Donnie MacDonald, Sheila Sturrock, Stan Moore and Sandy Park; who lost by 2 shots to 8 to
Livingston 1.

The Elgin team was: Gill Smith, Keith Hyam, Richard Kingslake, Gillian Kingslake; who lost by 1 shot to 13 to Carrington 1.

Texas Scramble

The Texas Scramble took place on 4 September 2015 at Buchanan Castle Golf Club. The weather was good with lovely evening sunshine and 4 teams of 3 took part. The golf was followed by an excellent meal in the club house and a general knowledge quiz with 3 teams of 5 or 6 people.

The winning golf team was Fiona Glass, John O'Neill and Dennis Pattendon who accumulated a total of 46 points.

The quiz was won by Richard Kingslake, Bob and Fiona Glass, Donnie and Mary MacDonald and Gill Smith, who scored 26 points out of 35 and correctly answered two tie breaker questions.

Queen's Award for Voluntary Service 2015

Stirling Wheelchair Curling Club Volunteers have been included in the 2015 awards list. This is the equivalent of an MBE for Voluntary Groups. Our own Fiona Glass, Muriel Holroyd and Rosemary Miller were three of the six named volunteers – the others were Judy McKenzie, Sylvia Barclay and Jackie McLaren. A number of other Strathendrick club members have also helped on occasions in a variety of ways.

Donnie MacDonald became President in place of Sheila Sturrock. Sandy Park took over as Secretary and Vice-President from Donnie MacDonald. Rita Harris came onto the committee.
